Sacrifice.

" Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice,
and never the result of selfishness "
Napoleon Hill ( 1883-1970 )
American speaker & motivational writer

Have you been in a state of desperation before that you are willing to give up anything so you can have what you want or what you need? When you were in a bind how often you said, " What I wouldn't give for a...." But do we really mean it? Or better yet, would we ever mean it?

Say for instance one of your love ones, your parent, siblings, wife, husband or your child, is terminally ill. You are propositioned that if you give your own life, then your love ones will live a long, healthy, and happy life. Would you do it?

Of course it's very easy to ask and to respond to hypothetical scenarios. But for some people like myself, believes that making difficult choices and sacrifices is the norm. Some sacrifice their social life and money to take care of an ageing parent. Some leave their homeland so that they can provide a better future for their family. Some give up their career to take care for their children. And some give up their life for the country. Me? Well, I've done a few as well, but not to be discussed here because it's never enough. I acquire no merit for that. Just leave it to Allah.

So in desperation or out of necessity, an important and wise decision making is all that we got. It's really subjective according to any given situation, and that's why i think that we should be mindful of the context of each other's choices and sacrifices before we pass judgement.

Often times we put off making life altering decisions, especially ones that alter our life, a sacrifice for another family member is a sacrifice worth making. The truth is - no one will ever know the journey will you travel until you travel it yourself. After all said and done, the choice is yours to make and if it too bold for your current state of affairs, then one should accept and respect it too.

I believe that there's no limit to what we would sacrifice in order to attain what we desperately need. For me, when it comes to my family, there's nothing I wouldn't sacrifice.

What about you?

Is there a limit to your sacrifice?
